Death of a Real Property Owner/Real Property Taxes

Many people do not realize that, when a real property owner dies, the death of the property owner triggers certain actions that must be taken to avoid property tax penalties. Please see the link to the Office of the Los Angeles County Tax Assessor: https://assessor.lacounty.gov/homeowners/death-of-an-owner

“The Los Angeles County Tax Assessor” must be notified upon the death of an owner within 150 days of the date of death, or if the estate is probated, at the time the inventory and appraisal is filed. An estate plan can help the personal representative manage all of the decedent’s affairs in a timely manner.
